Privacy policy
Last updated 3 November 2026
In short: we don't store or log your prompts or answers, we never train on them, and we don't collect who you are.
Who we are
Cape Inference is an independent operator in Cape Town, South Africa. Write to [email protected] about anything to do with how our service handles personal information, or if you need our full name and address for a legal matter.
What our service handles
When you use our model through OpenRouter, OpenRouter sends us your request: the messages, any tool definitions, and settings such as temperature. We use it only to produce the answer and send it back.
We don't ask for, keep or log your name, email address, account details, payment details or IP address. If a request contains personal information, for example inside a message, we process it only to answer that request.
What we keep
- Prompts and answers: not stored and not logged. They exist in our servers' memory only while your request runs.
- A short-lived cache: to process repeated text faster, such as a long system prompt, the model server keeps recently processed text in its memory. The cache only saves the server from repeating work, and it never puts one request's content into another request's answer. It is never written to disk, it is overwritten as new requests arrive, and it is cleared when the server restarts.
- Request records: for each request we record when it happened, how long it took, how many tokens it used, which of our servers answered and whether it succeeded. These records contain no prompt text, answer text, IP address or user identifier. We use them to run the service and to check OpenRouter's invoices, and keep them as long as billing needs them.
- Totals: counts and averages, such as requests per hour, kept for up to 30 days.
Training and sharing
We never use your prompts or answers to train or improve any model. We don't sell or share them, and we don't use them for advertising. If the law requires us to hand over information, we can only hand over what we keep, as listed above.
Who else handles your request
- OpenRouter passes your request to us and our answer back to you. Its privacy policy covers what it keeps.
- Cloudflare carries the traffic between OpenRouter and our servers. As our network provider, it decrypts and re-encrypts requests on their way to us, and it may route them through its servers outside South Africa. Its privacy policy covers its part.
Our own servers are in Cape Town, and the model runs entirely on them.
Security
Only OpenRouter can send requests to our service, because every request must carry a key we issued to them. Behind that, our model servers sit on a private network and require a key of their own.
Your rights
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. Because we don't keep prompts, answers or anything that identifies you, we will usually hold nothing about you. Write to [email protected]. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to South Africa's Information Regulator.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new date.
